This weekend we learned the sad news that our friend Sam Marshall had passed away. Sam was one of the nicest and kindest people in the pen community.
His passion for Sheaffer Snorkels led to eventually establishing Snorkel Solutions and the re-development of the Snorkel Point Holder Gasket, based on the original patent design. The new gasket was so good, that after sending samples to Sheaffer in Ft. Madison, they asked to buy them for their own repairs. I’ll never forget in 2013 when Lisa and I were talking with Sam and Martin Ferguson about buying Snorkel Solutions, we went to this BBQ joint around the corner from the Miami Pen Show hotel. We walked over, got a seat at the family style benches and proceeded to buy the company over BBQ and brisket (Sam loved his brisket!). It seemed like such an odd place to strike the deal, but looking back, it was perfect.
