2014 Marks the 90th Anniversary of the Meisterstuck, and Montblanc created a special pen to commemorate the occasion featuring red gold trim and a fantastic new nib. Here we talk about the Montblanc LeGrand 90th Anniversary set of writing instruments.
The first thing to notice is the pen comes in a special 90th anniversary box. It’s nothing too earth shattering, but the sleeve is really something specil, copper/rose gold and fetures an old Montblanc safety in front of the Mont Blanc and mountain range. The top of the box is in rose gold and says Montblanc 4810 on the top. The inside is basically the same as the standard Montblanc box, but is otherwise quite nice. Let’s take a look at the pen.
Montblanc LeGrand 90th Anniversary
The 90th Anniversary series is offered in the 149, LeGrand, and Classique series. The LeGrand and Classique come in Fountain pen, Rollerball, and ballpoint pen options. Here, we’ll look at the standard size LeGrand (or 146 as collectors know it by) Meisterstuck.
The first thing to note is the beautiful red gold trim. A departure from the standard yellow gold or platinum plated trim you usually find. Unscrew the cap to find the gorgeous special 90th Anniversary Nib, which, coincidentally, upside down reads 06, the founding year of the company. Montblanc indicates this is purely coincidence, and was not planned. Either way, it’s pretty cool. Nib is 14kt and rose gold plated to match the rest of the pen.
Montblanc LeGrand 90th Anniversary Nib
The pen is a piston filler, and has an ink window just below the section threads. It is in every way, identical to the standard LeGrand 146 with the exception of the trim color and nib. Montblanc has hinted the red gold trim will remain after this year, but will transition back to a standard nib. No word yet whether it will be rose gold plated or not. There is no other special marking to denote the pen as the 90th Anniversary model.
Montblanc LeGrand 90th Anniversary Fountain Pen
The Rollerball pen is a standard capped rollerball, and features a threaded rollerball refill. A pretty cool feature to keep everything in place. There is no other identification and from the outside, looks just like the fountain pen.

The ballpoint pen is a comfortable size in the hand and is cap twist actuated. Unscrew the cap to access the ballpoint refill. Also with all red gold trim.

The Montblanc LeGrand 90th Anniversary Meisterstuck writing instruments are beautiful to look at and hold and promise to provide years of service to their owners. The striking red gold trim against the classic black resin makes for a very elegant look. Definitely a pen to take a look at.
