On our way to Denver!

In lieu of a podcast tonight, let’s hit the highlights of this weekend’s upcoming Colorado Pen Show in Denver!
First of all, if you are within a couple hours driving distance of the show, GO. A redditor today asked whether it would be appropriate for a newbie to go to a show like this. The answer is a definitive yes. YES. Here’s why:

Denver falls into the class of a smaller regional show, except, it’s not all that small anymore. It does however, maintain that smaller hometown feel to it. I know, some of you are saying, well, this is only the second year, but a lot of great things have happened since last years show. For one the show has expanded into the next room. There are more vendors. There are great seminars (think Michael Sull, Sam Fiorella, and Susan Wirth. Did I mention Michael Sull?), there will be modern pens, vintage pens, custom pens, ink, paper, pen storage, and even Mike Masuyama grinding and fixing nibs this year. Everything you need to feed your hobby. It’s also in a pretty cozy hotel (The Hilton Denver-Stapleton North) which makes congregating with your pen friends so much easier. There will be pens from $4 to $4000.

We roll out on Thursday mid-day to arrive Friday. You’ll find us in the big ballroom next to the registration table on the right against the wall. The show runs Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission runs $5 each day.  If you can make it, Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm is the Michael Sull Vintage American Cursive Handwriting Seminar. Pre-registration is required and cost is $50, limited to 20 students.

So, if you can, get your lists together and get to the show. For those new to pen shows, take a look at my previous discussion on Pen Shows for some more in depth info on what you should and shouldn’t do.

See you in Denver!

Ink it up!
