Monteverde Yosemite Green

This week we’re walking into the valley and gazing upon another of the new Monteverde inks – Yosemite Green.

Yosemite Green is a beautiful, rich green that even John Muir would be proud to write with. Yosemite Green comes in both 30ml and 90ml glass bottles and is well priced at $8 and $12.50, respectively. This review was done with a Conklin Duragraph F, TWSBI Eco 1.1, and on Rhodia No 18 blank paper.

I would consider Yosemite Green a true green, and it has some nice properties that make it an attractive ink. With both a fine and broad nib there is a good amount of shading – transitioning from a light emerald green to a deep true green. There was some red sheen that occurred when using a brush or cotton swab, but it didn’t come through when writing with a pen no matter what size the nib.

Like other Monteverde inks, the flow was excellent and there was no feathering or bleedthrough. Saturation was on the high side, but the ink did produce some beautiful shading. Dry times were a little higher at around 25-35 seconds, but I had no issues with clean up. Yosemite Green had no water resistance, but I can live with that considering how well it performed elsewhere.

I usually reach for Montblanc Irish Green when I’m going for a true green, but Yosemite Green delivers the same beautiful color with great properties at a significantly lower price. The Monteverde inks that I’ve tried have all performed admirably, with colors that are interesting yet appropriate for everyday use at the office and home.

As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the color for you.
