A Look at the Conklin Crescent

Today we take a look at the new Conklin Crescent!

Going back to a decades old design, Conklin has recently revived the Crescent Filler. Mark Twain once called this a “profanity saver” as it would not roll off the desk because of the crescent.

The pen currently comes in four different colors, Black, Red, Orange, and a Transparent Limited Edition. The colored versions all feature a vintage style chasing pattern on the barrel, similar to the originals from the 1920’s.

Conklin Crescent Transparent

The filling system operates like the original Conklin Crescents, whereby a sac is compressed inside the barrel by the crescent. There is a lock ring holding the crescent in place, so you simply turn the lock ring to reveal the slot, then press down on the crescent to compress the sac. Release and the pen fills with ink. Repeat several times and the pen is full. When done, rotate the lock ring to keep the crescent in place and you’re ready to write!

Conklin Crescent Red

Each color brings us back to almost one hundred years ago, when Conklin made pens out of ebonite or hard rubber.  Nib options are Fine, Medium or 1.1 Stub, the Fine and Medium nibs featuring a two tone nib with a crescent shaped breather hole, the 1.1 stub featuring a single tone nib with a round breather hole. The pen is generously sized at 5-1/2″ capped, 5-1/16″ barrel length, and 6-3/4″ long posted. Section diameter is about .44″ at the mid point.

If you’re looking for something along the retro lines, this pen certainly stands out and is a true representation of the original. This Conklin Crescent is also easier to take with instead of worrying about a vintage model.
