A Look at the Platinum 3776

Today we take a look at the Platinum 3776, one of the staples of the Platinum lineup!

The Platinum 3776 Century Comes in three main colors and two trim versions, for a total of five different variations. In gold trim there is Bourgogne, Chartres Blue, and Black.  These pens have some transparency to the barrels, which makes for interesting highlights when held up to the light.

Platinum 3776 utilizes a Slip and Seal technology with their cap, which is meant to protect against leaks caused by changes in atmospheric pressure and has complete air-tightness for up to 24 months. This means, should you happen to set aside your 3776 for months at a time, it will still write immediately when you pick it up.  I don’t know about you but I hope to never leave a pen sitting with ink in it for two years!

The 3776 posts well and secure, and is easy to slide into your pocket with the nice wide clip. Classic looks make this pen noticeable without being too flashy.

New for 2015 we have Rhodium trimmed versions, the Black Diamond and Chartres Blue.  Rhodium trimmed versions include Rhodium plated 14kt nibs as well.

These pens are comparable in size to the Sailor 1911 Large, but priced lower due to the 14kt vs. 21kt nib on the Sailor.  They are a hair larger than the Sailor 1911 Standard, but about $20 more in price.

There are multiple 14kt nib options, including a Music nib. Other options include Ultra Extra Fine, Extra Fine, Fine, Soft Fine, Medium, Broad, and Double Broad.  We always try to have all nibs available in stock at any given time.

The pen is also available in Transparent versions, the Nice Pur, Nice, and the new Yamanaka.

This is a well balanced pen with a typical smooth Japanese nib. Per our usual choices, Lisa chose a Fine nib in her Bourgogne and I took a Medium in my Chartres Blue with Rhodium Trim. You can see the entire family here.  Platinum also has additional models available in the 3776 series in Celluloid as well as Maki-e, some of which are outstanding colors.  We will highlight these other 3776 pens soon!

Ink it up!
