The Faber-Castell Basic Series!

Today we talk about the Faber-Castell Basic line of pens.  We have these in three different finishes, Polished Silver, Carbon Fiber, and Leather.  These come in Fountain pen, Rollerball, Ballpoint, and mechanical pencil versions.  The Carbon Fiber model features a shiny black clip, whereas the Leather and Polished Silver versions have a shiny chrome plated clip.  The clip has a bit of spring to it and fits tight in your pocket, and all three models feature the soft-touch cap which gives for an interesting feel.

The caps are snap caps and do post securely on the barrel end, but at 5-7/16″ capped, 5-5/16″barrel length the pen posts at 7-1/2″ long, which is a bit long unless you have really big hands.  The gripping area comes in at 7/8″ wide and features the same soft-touch material as on the caps.

The barrel has an ink view window that is smokey grey.  I don’t know how useful this features is going to be, but then again, many Parker Vacumatics were difficult to see the ink level, and the Lamy 2000 has the same issue with its small and dark ink windows.

The pen is a cartridge converter and uses short international in a back to back configuration, or one large international cartridge or converter which is sold separately.

Faber-Castell Nib

Faber-Castell Nib

The nib is the standard Faber-Castell removable nib unit and is interchangeable amongst all other Faber-Castell pens including the Loom, Ambition, or Ondoro and comes in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, or Broad points.  Each nib has a ventless design with the dimples on the top,  the two knights jousting, and the nib size clearly indicated at the base of the nib.  The nib sits inside a cavity which makes it super easy to remove without having to take the converter or cartridge out first like many other brands.

So there you have it the Faber-Castell Basic line of pens.
