Sailor Massachusetts is a warm red-orange ink from the 50 States line. This line comes in Sailor’s recognizable 20ml glass, rectangular bottle that makes the pen filling process easy. This review was done with a Pilot Metropolitan F, Lamy Safari B, and on Rhodia blank No. 18 paper.

Sailor Massachusetts celebrates the picturesque views of the changing leaves during a New England autumn. This is the perfect ink to welcome the chill of fall. It has pretty low levels of shading, keeping the color firmly at a fiery orange of the foliage. This hue stays consistent across both a fine and broad nib.

As you might expect from a Sailor ink, Massachusetts has good flow, low feathering, and little bleedthrough. The dry time in a fine nib was surprisingly fast at 10 seconds, while it took a bit longer at 30 seconds in a broad. Sailor Massacusetts has no water resistance, and clean up was very easy.

As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
