It has been a long while since we have posted a weekly carry, mainly due to what we called “March Madness” – no, not sports related, but the 3 pen shows that we attended in March. Philly was weekend 1, Little Rock weekend 2 and Long Island weekend 3. As much as I love going to pen shows, hunting for pens to fill gaps in our collections, and meeting lots of awesome people, I freely confess, I am sooo glad to be home!!
It’s nice to sleep in our own bed, get ready in our own bathroom, eat our own food, and relax with our hobbies. Some things you can take with you (books on kindle, crossword puzzles etc), but some things you just cannot drag along with you. It is nice to be able to revisit old friends in the pen chest, and after being gone for most of March, when I was putting some of the new acquisitions in the pen chest, I rediscovered some old friends.
Let me introduce you:
First, I have to gush about the leather pen cases. When we saw these, we fell in love. Soooo soft & buttery smooth, just lovely to caress. And the perfect size for almost every pen. I keep this case in my purse – the bright red stands out, so that I can always find it. These were designed to fit a MB 149, so my smaller babies fit just fine.
First up, my newish Delta Vintage. We first came across these in LA, and really liked them. Brian has a green one with a medium nib, and I have this gorgeous blue, with a fine nib of course. Nice writer, cool roller clip, and I like the 2-tone trim on the cap band.
Next, a Pilot Knight I think, I got this in a lot of pens I believe. It’s got nice heft, and is a nice writer. I don’t know why it doesn’t get more love from me. It’s an all-around nice pen.
And never least, my Pilot Prera, with a fine nib, but since this is a Japanese fine, it’s more like an XF nib. I LOVE this pen. Great flow, always dependable, a definite “go-to” pen when I need to jot down a quick note, without having to fiddle with a balky starting pen.
The 3 pen case that I keep in my school tote, is also the same yummy leather, but in lovely navy blue. When we found out that the navy blue colored cases were limited, I snagged one.
For school, I have my Lamy Al-Star this week, in the now discontinued coffee color. Fine nib of course, and I love the unusual color. And talk about a great writer!!!
Next is my Taccia Legato in Burgundy Coral (fine nib of course). This pen surprised me. A pretty nice writer, so no worries there, but the material is really really pretty in the hand. It kind of glows, and warms to the touch. It’s got nice heft, and while it may be bigger than some of my other pens, this is not a large pen. My students all comment when I use this pen.
Lastly, my newest crush – the Pilot Metropolitan. What is not to love about this pen?! It only comes in a medium nib, which some may find disappointing, but the nib is not all that wide for my normally fine-nib preference. And what a steal this is!!! $15 for a GREAT writer, in a box, with a cartridge and a converter?? No wonder they are pretty much sold out, and even Pilot has no more until mid-April. This is actually my 3rd one. I had a black, but someone at a show wanted one, we were out, so I sold him mine and then took a silver. Then a friend of ours wanted a silver, we were sold out, so I sold her mine, and took a gold dot pattern. NICE writer. Go buy one – get several – they make great gifts…..
So, there you have it – my weekly carry for my 1st full week at home. I’ll post back later in the week with an update. I only teach 1x this week, so I’m going to try to love my Taccia more than my normal go-to pens, the Lamy & Metro. At home, it’s so natural to reach for my Prera, so I will try to spend more quality time with the Pilot and the Delta.
