Chinese Phoenix

The Chinese Phoenix pays homage to the special bird, known to the Chinese as Feng Huang. The phoenix symbolizes virtue, grace and prosperity, as well as the union of opposites, yin and yang, both male and female. Unlike the western phoenix, the Chinese phoenix is not reborn from its ashes. It represents the light of the sun and the moon, and is the bird of the southern sky. Its song is said to have been the basis of the five cardinal notes of Chinese melody and one of the four creatures that created the world (the other three being the dragon, the unicorn, and the tortoise).

Crane and Turtle

The Crane and Turtle depicts a crane flying overhead and a turtle looking up from a pond below. In Japan the crane and turtle symbolize good fortune and longevity. An old Japanese saying proclaims, “As the crane one thousand years, the tortoise ten thousand years.” This fountain pen pays tribute to these symbols of a long and prosperous life.

The water of the pond is depicted with flourishing gold waves that twist all the way down one side of the barrel. The crane in the sky spies the turtle down below, and the turtle makes eye contact in return. Gold powder is used in abundance to depicts the details on the crane’s wings and the turtle’s shell. A fine gold band encircles the bottom of the cap lip, making the pen’s most vulnerable spot stronger in a very subtle manner.

Dragon with Cumulus

The Dragon with Cumulus depicts the dragon emerging from a roiling cumulus cloud. The combination of cumulus clouds with the dragon represents power and good fortune. A fine gold band encircles the bottom of the cap lip, making the pen’s most vulnerable spot stronger in a very subtle manner. Gold and other metallic powers are applied to create the shapes and colors of this design and the low relief motif can be felt as well as seen.

Golden Pheasant

The Golden Pheasant captures the image of a pair of pheasants at take off. The background is filled with a grouping of heart-shaped particles raised by the beating wings. The silver pheasant seen on the cap points downward, with its long tapered tail feathers spread out around the cap. The pheasant on the barrel, the male, is rising up. He is much more colorful bird and seems to be rising to meet the female on the cap. The cap and barrel have a single start thread, so that the two birds always align beak to beak when the cap is screwed onto the barrel. Gold and other metallic powers are applied to create the shapes and colors of this design and the low relief motif can be felt as well as seen.

The artist’s kanji signature can be seen on the pen as an additional design feature. Each pen ships in a velvet-lined softwood presentation box and includes all documentation, a large capacity Con-70 converter, and a Pilot cartridge as well.
