Shine bright like a… LAMY Ruby!
LAMY Ruby is exactly as described — a deep, ruby red ink ready to make your writing look as luxurious as it feels. It comes in a beautiful 30 ml glass bottle with a stable body shape to keep it steady on your desk. This review was done with a Pilot Metropolitan F, Lamy Safari B, and on Rhodia blank No. 18 paper.
LAMY Ruby is named for the red version of corundum, the same mineral responsible for sapphires. The color is strikingly beautiful without being too garish and in your face. It does not have high levels of shading, but you can still see some varieties from a middle-deep red to a darker maroon in a broad nib, while a fine nib sits firmly on the lighter end of that range.
This ink is a treat to work with, offering good flow, low feathering and bleedthrough, and an average dry time of 20 to 30 seconds. LAMY Ruby has no water resistance, but adding water adds lighter red and even pink shades to its spectrum, which could make it very useful for artists!
If you’re looking for an ink to step out from your standard blues and blacks without being too distracting, LAMY Ruby is an excellent choice. The sleek design of the bottle perfectly matches the gorgeous color of the ink, giving a luxury experience without the luxury price tag!
As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
Ink it Up!
