Papier Plume Burgundy
Today we delve into the warm and sumptuous color of Papier Plume Burgundy.
Papier Plume in a newcomer to the fountain pen ink arena, but I’ve been impressed with all of their inks so far. Papier Plume Burgundy is a tad more plum than most burgundy’s I’ve used, but it is a very nice color. It comes in a wide but stout 50ml glass bottle and is accessibly priced at $12. This review was done with a Edison Pearlette EF, Lamy Studio B, and on Rhodia blank no.18 paper.
Papier Plume Burgundy is a rich red with strong plum colors. I think of burgundy as closer to a red, and this ink leans on the violet side. The ink shaded nicely in both a fine and broad nib, and showcased a considerable range of color. The ink shaded from a dark magenta to a rich plum and finally to a deep burgundy color. It was a luxurious color in all nibs and it was well behaved.
The ink flowed well, and there was no feathering or bleedthrough on Rhodia paper. It is a fairly saturated ink, but had a great range of shading. Dry times were normal at 20-30 seconds, and water resistance was low, but that led to easy cleaning. It should be noted that a ghost image of the letters remained after the water test, but all the pigment had been washed away.
Papier Plume Burgundy is a rich color that I could see really getting into during the fall (I’m one of those crazy people that likes to match inks with seasons). While probably not a workplace color, it does have an air of sophistication that makes whatever you’re writing seem a bit more important.
As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
Ink it Up!
