Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black is a can’t-miss classic!
Pelikan 4001 inks come in a short and wide 62.5ml glass bottle, giving you a lot of ink without taking up a lot of space on your desk. This review was done with a Pilot Metropolitan F, Lamy Safari B, and on Rhodia blank No. 18 paper.
Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black is a tried and true color that is great for everyday use in personal and professional settings. It sits a bit lighter than other blue-black inks which allows for the color to shine through more clearly. It has some amounts of shading which leads it to look a bit lighter in a fine nib, and darker but still recognizably blue-black in a broad.
This ink was a breeze to work with, offering good flow, low feathering, and low bleedthrough. The dry time is a bit longer than other inks at 30 seconds and has a surprising amount of water resistance. When water is dropped over the fine and broad nib writing, all text is still clearly visible!
Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black is a staple that everyone should have in their collection. No matter what you plan to use this ink for, your writing will be sleek and classy.
As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
Ink it Up!
