Private Reserve Avocado
Perfectly ripe and always delicious,
Private Reserve Avocado is the perfect snack for your pen.
Private Reserve is an American based ink manufacturer that produces some beautiful colors. Avocado is very popular – and with good reason. The ink is a gorgeous green that has lots of shading and excellent properties. Private Reserve ink comes in a round 66ml glass bottle that has a wide mouth that is super easy to fill from. This review was done with a Pilot Prera F, Conklin Duragraph B and on Rhodia blank No.18 paper.
Avocado truly has all the colors of (surprise!) an avocado. The ink shades well in both a fine and broad nib, and has a wealth of green hues. At its lightest, the ink is a pear olive green. From there it shades to a traditional pine color. The ink finishes as a deep hunter green. The ink also contains brown dyes that reveal themselves with water – so get this ink wet just for fun!
Private Reserve did have some production issues a number of years ago, but those have since been ironed out and their inks have been performing wonderfully ever since. Avocado has good flow with no feathering or bleedthrough on Rhodia paper. The ink is a moderate to high shader with good dry times of 20-30 seconds. It has moderate water resistance and cleans up easily.
Private Reserve Avocado is a classic green color that performs really well. It’s a dark enough green that you might be able to get away with using it at work. If not, its the perfect color for all your other writing needs.
As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
Ink it Up!
