Sailor reissued its Jentle line of inks earlier this year, and the color people were most excited about was Apricot. This beautifully shading yellow orange ink had amassed a cult-like following since it was discontinued, but now we can all enjoy its bright glow. Apricot comes in Sailor’s 50ml round glass bottle that has a plastic reservoir to help with filling. This review was done with a Sailor Pro Gear F, Lamy Safari B and on Rhodia blank No.18 Paper.

Apricot is a high shading ink that produces a wide range of colors in both fine and broad nibs. In a fine nib, the general appearance leans towards orange, but you still get honey yellows. A broad nib shows the best the ink has to offer. Light marigold yellows shade into darker honey tones before finishing as a bright apricot orange. The ink has a bright appearance without being straining on the eyes.

As with most Sailor inks, Apricot performed very well. The flow was good and there was no feathering or bleedthrough on Rhodia paper. The saturation is on the lower side but it produces a great range of shading. Dry times were good at 20-30 seconds. The ink has no water resistance, but clean up is easy.

I’m generally not a fan of orange inks, but I find myself having a pen inked up with Apricot nearly all the time. The colors and shading that the ink produces are just beautiful, and it has the rare ability of being an eye-catching, bright ink without going into that obnoxious neon territory. It’s easy to read even in a fine nib and the color always brings a smile to my face.

As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
