We are so excited to offer the incredible Sailor Ink Studio. The series offers an impressive 100 different colors of ink. Each ink is referred to as a number ranging from 0 to 1,000. The Ink Studio color 123 has gained notoriety for its unique mix of grey, purple and green. Ink Studio ink comes in a 20ml glass bottle packaged in a cardboard box. Each ink also comes with a set of stickers that can be placed on your converter so you always remember which ink is in your pen. This review was done with a a Sailor Pro Gear MF, Lamy Studio B and on Rhodia blank No.18 paper. If you’re interested in ordering an Ink Studio color, please call the store at 920-997-8220.

The appearance of 123 depends greatly on the size of nib you use it with. In a fine nib, the ink is a light grey with violet undertones. In a broad nib, the ink shades more which brings darker tones that delve into what makes this ink so unique. Moving away from the light violet grey, there is a strong plum purple. Accompanying this is a very unique halo of green that surrounds the darker areas.

As with all Sailor inks, Ink Studio inks have great properties. 123 has good flow with no feathering or bleedthrough on Rhodia paper. The ink is moderately saturated with good dry times at 20-30 seconds. Depending on what size nib one uses, shading ranges from low to moderate. The ink doesn’t have any water resistance but clean up is easy (as 123).

This is a heavily-hyped ink and it definitely delivers on its promised effects. That said, if you don’t use broad nibs then it will look like a fairly standard violet-grey. Also, make sure to use a decent paper with the ink to get the most out of its effect. Remember there are 99 other inks in this series and many are just as outstanding as 123, so don’t forget to check out the rest of the line too!

As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. Due to their small bottle size and large number of colors Ink Studio inks will not be available as samples. If you would like to order a bottle, please call the store at 920-997-8220.

Ink it Up!
