Fall into the arms of the tall, dark, and handsome Sailor Shikiori Doyou!
Sailor Shikiori Doyou is a rich brown-black that stands out from your standard black inks. The Shikiori line comes in Sailor’s recognizable 20ml glass, rectangular bottle that makes the pen filling process easy, and Sailor Shikiori Doyou is also available in cartridges. This review was done with a Sailor 1911 F, a Lamy Studio B and on Rhodia blank No.18 paper.
It’s difficult to make a black ink interesting, but Sailor has risen to the challenge! This warm black is packed with dimension, shading from a warm middle gray to a dark pitch. Whether you write with a fine or broad nib, you will notice the hint of warmth in any pen.
Sailor Shikiori Doyou has a small amount of water resistance, leaving the words still readable beneath the drops. In spots where water hit writing, this ink left behind a tan edge which makes this a unique choice for artists, too! Sailor inks continue to astound me with their quality, showing off low feathering and bleedthrough, easy clean up, and an average dry time of 20-25 seconds.
If you gravitate towards the “safe” colors of blue and black but still enjoy a little something to set your writing apart, Sailor Shikiori Doyou may quickly become your go-to ink! I have become quite taken by this ink myself and am very happy to add this to my own ink collection.
As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
Ink it Up!
