Enjoy the fresh spring air with Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu!
Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu is a beautiful green ink from the Shikiori line with gorgeous burgundy sheen and an incredible range for shading. The Shikiori line comes in a 20ml glass rectangular bottle that makes the pen filling process easy despite its size. This review was done with a Sailor Pro Gear F, Lamy Safari B, and on Rhodia blank No. 18 paper.
Tokiwa-Matsu roughly translates to Evergreen, and perfectly matches the green hues of this ink. While it is a shade lighter and warmer than Sailor Epinard, Tokiwa-Matsu offers a deeper and more saturated color experience than its predecessor. This ink has a consistent look in a fine nib, but starts to display shifts from lighter shades to dark with a hint of sheen in a broad nib.
As one might expect with a Sailor ink, Tokiwa-Matsu is a treat to work with. This ink has good flow with no feathering or bleedthrough on Rhodia paper. The dry times averaged 20-30 seconds. While it is not water resistant, the splashes of water brought out an interesting blue undertone and clean up was easy.
While there are many green inks out there, Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu offers a unique, rich color and a delectable sheen. The levels of shading you can achieve add plenty of interest to keep your attention all day. The quality of a Sailor ink will never let you down!
As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
Ink it Up!
