Baltimore Pen Show Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the Baltimore Pen Show started much the same way Saturday started.  We had another wonderful breakfast in the  morning for vendors, and had a chance to get some casual time with Dick Krane and Jared Lutkowski of Kenro Industries.  We had been talking with them all weekend in between customers, so a few minutes to chat without all the rush was nice.

The show opened at 11:00 which was also nice, as we didn’t have to rush to get in, but it sure didn’t seem like I had any more sleep.  I got up at 6:15 to finish up repairing a batch of pens we had acquired the day before and that I had started on Saturday evening.

Traffic was light most of the day, as most Sunday’s are at shows.  I have learned to not get your hopes up as most traffic does not happen until after lunch time.  We had some traffic at the table most of the day, but enough free time we could get up and walk around to chat with others.  I had a Relief 2-L in a nice burgundy marble I had given to Pendleton Brown on Saturday afternoon for some nib work.  Finished, it landed on our table Sunday morning when we arrived.  A very nice writing pen now!  Pendleton and I were ping-ponging customers back and forth all weekend, he sending them to us for TWSBI 540’s, and then us back to him for some of his new TWSBI flex nib work.  It was neat to see our customers lined up at his table getting their new pens worked on not ten minutes after they left our table!

Being at a pen show, I had to take home a specimen for the collection.  I will admit, I had considered leaving empty handed, but Lisa is always the encouraging spouse.  🙂  There wasn’t a great deal of vintage that interested me and my hard rubber focus, but I did manage to spot one filigree pen I had seen last November at the Ohio Pen Show in Columbus.  I hesitated then as I had already purchased too much, but this time I was not going to let it slip through my fingers.  A short pen, but sporting a probably Heath gold filled filigree overlay and a screw cap eyedropper to boot, I couldn’t let it go another minute.  Basically the same pattern as found on Parker and even Weidlich pens of the period, it’s no problem the pen capped is 4 1/8″ long, it’s still a very pretty pen.

Lastly, what many people have reported as being an amazing hotel architecturally, a few pictures of some of the more interesting areas in the hotel.  I was particularly fond of the stained glass windows.
