Escape to the lake with Sailor 50 States Michigan!
Sailor Michigan is a rich cerulean ink from the 50 States line. This line comes in Sailor’s recognizable 20ml glass, rectangular bottle that makes the pen filling process easy. This review was done with a Pilot Metropolitan F, Lamy Safari B, and on Rhodia blank No. 18 paper.
Sailor Michigan is a bright blue ink that honors both the state and the Great Lake of the same name. It does not have much of a range for shading without water, so the look will be very consistent across the range of nib sizes.
This is a wonderful ink to work with, offering good flow, low feathering and bleedthrough, and easy cleanup. In a fine nib it dries in 10 seconds, and takes a bit longer at 25 seconds in a broad nib. It has just enough water resistance to remain readable even after being hit with water.
If you have been searching for a rich, deep blue ink that is perfect for everyday use, your search has come to an end! Whether you’re at the office or having a day on the shores of the Greak Lakes, Sailor 50 States Michigan makes a perfect companion.
As with any ink review, the pen, paper, and person doing the writing will influence the way the ink looks. If you’re not sure about a color, try a sample to see if it’s the one for you.
